CC concluded that this business deal will not create any problems for competition. This is why it was decided to permit it.
Vilsone reports that during the evaluation process CC found that the deal will affect two markets: road transports in Latvia and marine transports market between Sweden, Baltic States and countries sharing borders (Russia, Belarus, etc.).
Because the areas of both markets do not overlap, the merge will not have a major impact on the market structure, reduce competition or provide any of the participating sides a dominant position on any of the two markets Latvia’s Competition Council decided to permit Stena Line Scandinavia AB together with SIA Baltreiss owners to acquire decisive influence over the Latvia-based company.
To prevent reduction of competition as a result of merging deals, permission from Competition Council is needed. Competition Council performs state control over market concentration to prevent structural changes that could potentially limit consumers’ freedom of choice or increase product or service prices.
