Norway, Sweden on top standings at men’s world curling championship

LAS VEGAS — Norway’s Steffen Walstad joined Sweden’s Niklas Edin atop the standings at the men’s world curling championship Monday. Walstad beat Greg Persinger of the United States 7-5 in the morning draw to sit tied with Sweden at 4-0.

Canada’s Brad Gushue (2-1) faced Italy’s Joel Retornaz later in the day. South Korea’s ChangMin Kim was 3-0, while Scotland’s Bruce Mouat and China’s Dejia Zou were deadlocked with Canada at 2-1.

Japan’s Go Aoki picked up his first victory with a 7-6 win over Jaap Van Dorp of the Netherlands. Italy and Russia’s Alexey Timofeev were 2-1, while Japan, the Netherlands and the United States were all 1-3. Germany’s Alexander Baumann and Switzerland’s Marc Pfister were winless in three games.
